He was saved and originally felt called into ministry at the age of fourteen while attending an all boys missions education camp, Camp McCall, in Sunset, SC. He and his wife, Hannah, have been married just over 15 years and have five children. In his free time he enjoys coaching his children's sports, trout fishing, hiking, and backpacking.  He was licensed and ordained at Open Door Baptist Church in Walhalla, South Carolina. Prior to coming to Lowe's Grove he was Senior Pastor of Lawrenceville Baptist Chapel in Northern NY, and Associate Pastor of Education for Open Door Baptist Church in Walhalla, SC. Teresa has served the Lord through Music Ministry for many years. She began serving as the church pianist in her church in Galax, Virginia when she was 15 years old. Teresa has two sons and two granddaughters. LIKE ARROWS IN THE HANDS OF A WARRIOR ARE CHILDREN BORN IN ONE’S YOUTH. BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE QUIVER IS FULL OF THEM. THEY WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME WHEN THEY CONTEND WITH THEIR OPPONENTS IN COURT. **"Where we are steadfast in our purpose to see lives and our community radically changed by the gospel"** In our Kids Ministry, our mission is to help kids find their way back to God, connect with others, and contribute to changing the world. We believe that kids have the capacity to walk intimately with God, and we love to see them learn about Him and connect with Him through Bible stories, songs, and crafts. Every Sunday morning we provide a safe environment for kids from birth through fifth grade where they can learn about Jesus and connect with each other. Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our ministry, and it’s an honor to serve with each and every one of them as they love on kids each week! Every volunteer who leads in the Kids Ministry has had a background check and is committed to making the ministry a safe, Biblically relevant, and fun environment for your kids. We would love on your child, if you would share them with us, as we look to rebuild from the children that have gone and grown into a walk all their own. Does your child or teen have a Biblical worldview? Have they found their Savior and Friend Jesus Christ? Are they prepared to face the world in college or the workforce and be true to their Sanctification walk as they grow? Because we are God's children through Jesus, we are to live as brothers and sisters. The church is not a building, place, or program, but God's people. Living in community with one another is essential to growing in the Gospel and becoming more like Christ. Showing up to a Sunday gathering is great, but it is our desire to see everyone involved in a Missional Community. A Missional Community is not a mid-week program, but a family of missionary servants who are making disciple-making disciples daily. We would love to see all of our Missional Communities hanging out throughout the week, eating meals together and serving their neighborhoods. It is not something you check off a list, but a way of doing life. (photo of Lowe's Grove Middle School Band. Your generosity helps create a church where people feel welcomed, led, and loved - a place where life-changing stories are being written every week. On behalf of these stories, thank you for giving from your heart. As people of God we give because God has given so much to us. God doesn't need our money, but he does want what it represents: our purposes, passions, and priorities. We give to make a Kingdom impact locally in Durham, across the country, as well as globally through mission efforts. We give to increase the Kingdom through our generosity so that others may know Jesus better! Lowe's Grove Baptist believes in creating opportunities to serve and bless our local Durham community. We engage in supporting physically, spiritually, emotionally and sometimes monetarily to Lowe's Grove Middle School. We have specific ministries we support, as well as our own initiatives that we spend your generous donations on. NC Baptist, TriWest Network, Faith Comes by Hearing, PSS and Emergency Chaplains are those organizations. They also give back by sharing to minister to our community here@Durham. When Jesus commissioned his disciples before His ascension, He said, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." We take this command of making disciples in all nations very seriously, which leads us to giving a portion of your tithe and offerings to work God is doing globally. We have guest parking near the front of the church as you turn in from S. Alston Ave. Feel free to make your way up the stairs or the ramp to the front doors. As you walk in you should notice a generational and ethnic diversity. You will see some people wearing shorts and t-shirts while others may have a suit and tie on. Pastor John often wears a tie (no suit jacket) and sometimes you may catch him with one of his favorite bow ties. Pick an available seat down on the main level or in the balcony. Don't worry about the blankets on the backs of the pews, those aren't saving seats for anyone, they are there in case you get chilly. If you happen to need it, there are restrooms down the stairs by the front door. You will notice there is a connection card on the back of the pew for you to fill out. This information stays in house and allows us to have a record of your visit as well as the ability to follow up with you. Pastor John will welcome everyone into worship and give some brief announcements if needed. We will begin with worshipping through scripture reading, prayer, singing, and giving. Our music director and choir lead a blended style of worship currently accompanied by piano and organ. Occasionally you may here one of our men on the trumpet. Pastor John is an expository preacher, typically preaching through whole books of the Bible or the occasional topical series. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men. Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself human nature with its demands and necessities and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His substitutionary death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, fully God, fully man, in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls men to the Saviour, and effects regeneration. At the moment of regeneration He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence whereby his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Therefore, as soon as they are capable of moral action, they become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. **A.** Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour. **B.** Justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God. **C.** Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God’s purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes. In such a congregation each member is responsible and accountable to Christ as Lord. Its two scriptural offices are that of pastor/elder/overseer and deacon. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. Means and methods used for the improvement of society and the establishment of righteousness among men can be truly and permanently helpful only when they are rooted in the regeneration of the individual by the saving grace of God in Jesus Christ. In the spirit of Christ, Christians should oppose racism, every form of greed, selfishness, and vice, and all forms of sexual immorality, including adultery, homosexuality, and pornography. We should work to provide for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, and the sick. We should speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Every Christian should seek to bring industry, government, and society as a whole under the sway of the principles of righteousness, truth, and brotherly love. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption. Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. Parents are to demonstrate to their children God’s pattern for marriage. Parents are to teach their children spiritual and moral values and to lead them, through consistent lifestyle example and loving discipline, to make choices based on biblical truth.
